Context
As the marketplace evolved, Platform Administrators and Service Administrators managed a growing number of users, organisations, bookings and services. While administrators could view the current state of each entity, there was limited visibility into how data had changed over time. Understanding what changed, when, who made the change, and why often required technical logs or coordination with multiple teams. We defined a unified history framework to provide a complete audit trail across the platform.
The Challenge
- No centralized history experience across the platform
- Limited visibility into service and booking changes
- Difficulty identifying who performed specific actions
- Long investigation cycles when troubleshooting issues
- Limited auditability for operational and compliance purposes
- Inconsistent tracking across platform modules
The challenge was not simply storing historical data. It was making historical information accessible, searchable and actionable for administrators.
My Role
- Leading discovery with platform administrators and stakeholders
- Understanding investigation and auditing workflows
- Defining the vision for a reusable history framework
- Aligning multiple teams around a shared approach
- Defining tracking, search and filtering requirements
- Prioritizing delivery across multiple marketplace entities
Product Approach
Instead of independent history solutions, we designed a reusable framework for Users, Organisations, Bookings, Services and service variants. It included chronological audit trails, timestamps and user attribution, old-versus-new comparisons, reasons, search and filtering, detail side panels, and consistent interaction patterns across modules.
Outcome
The initiative introduced a centralized history experience across the marketplace, improving transparency, traceability, troubleshooting, operational governance, and the administrator experience.
Measures of Success
- Faster issue investigation and troubleshooting
- Reduced dependency on technical audit logs
- Increased administrator adoption
- Number of entities covered
- Search and filtering usage
- Reduced support effort related to change tracking
The Transformation
The History Framework transformed historical data from a backend auditing capability into a platform feature available directly to administrators. Administrators gained direct access to a searchable and traceable record of platform activity.
What I Learned
Historical data only becomes valuable when users can easily understand and explore it. The challenge was not collecting data, but presenting it in a way that supports real operational workflows. A consistent audit experience improved transparency, administrator productivity, and the foundation for future governance capabilities.
